Life at the Crossroads

Life at the Crossroads

Christ Church is situated in the village of Hipperholme on a busy crossroads.
Since the birth Christ Church LEP in September 2003, church life has been a whirl of activity. Working together has helped us to become one fellowship rather than two worshipping together and newcomers comment that they cannot tell who is from which tradition.
Our refurbished building was opened in December 2006.

The current membership is 124 (82 Methodist, 38 United Reformed and 4 Joint) with a growing community role.
As in any church we are a mixed group of Christians from a broad church at different stages of our spiritual journey. Some are deeply committed people who want to deepen their faith and understanding. There are also some who are happy just to worship together on a Sunday morning. Many of these and others are involved in our many activities which take place during the week. We enjoy quiet days and church weekends away too.
Worship is at the heart of all we do. There are usually around eighty people at Sunday morning worship and a much smaller group in the evening. The style varies depending on the preacher and we have our own worship group who prepare and lead the morning service at least once a quarter. We use both Rejoice and Sing and Hymns and Psalms regularly with additional use of Mission Praise, Songs of Fellowship and various modern hymns including those from Taizé and Iona. Hymns are frequently accompanied by various instruments which include a violin, flute, guitar, trumpet and horn. worship piano

Hopes and Dreams

When we celebrated the opening of our refurbished premises in Hipperholme, the church family were invited to share their hopes and dreams for Christ Church which were:

I dream of music, music, music
I dream of a contemporary church
I dream of a place of great hope for the future
I dream of a place of love and friendship.

I dream of unity with all
I dream of shared work with the community
I dream of a starting place for God’s love to go out into the world,
the community and our families!
I dream of a place where all will feel welcome.

I dream of a church open 7 days a week
I dream of lively worship
I dream of making links
I dream of a place to meet the Lord

I dream of a church where the door is always open
I dream of developing and expanding work and worship
I dream of a place for boys and girls to come and play
I dream of running out of space to seat everyone

I dream of another place to talk with God
I dream of a choir
I dream of a colourful church
I dream of being enthused with hope

I dream of a place of fellowship
I dream of a place of peace
I dream of a place for contemplation in times of sorrow and times of joy
I dream of a place where people will come to know Jesus

I dream of piano, organ, trumpet, violin, guitar and flute
I dream of a happy place
I dream of a time when the people in our community cannot imagine it without Christ Church.
I dream of a place for young and old, poor and rich, women and men, black and white, wise and foolish.

We dream of a place where all are welcome
A place where all can come to know God
A place of refreshment for the journey!
